How to Play the Arrows Game
Try it: a small 3×3 board.
Loading…
The rules
- Each tile on the board has an arrow pointing up, down, left or right.
- Tap an arrow and it slides in the direction it points.
- If nothing is in its way, it leaves the board.
- If another arrow blocks the path, the arrow shakes and stays where it is. A blocked tap does not count as a move.
- The puzzle is solved when the board is empty.
Arrows only point up, down, left or right, never diagonally.
Your first board, step by step
Start with the arrows on the outer edge that point away from the board – they have nothing in front of them. Tap those first. Each one that leaves can open a path for an arrow behind it. Keep asking one question: "Which arrow has a clear line to the edge right now?"
Controls
- Phone or tablet: tap the arrow.
- Computer: click the arrow, or use Tab and Enter.
- Undo puts the last arrow back. Hint shows an arrow that can leave right now with a coral ring. Restart starts the board again.
Common beginner mistakes
- Tapping fast without looking along the arrow's path.
- Forgetting that arrows pointing toward each other can never both go first – one of them must be cleared some other way, or they point outward.
- Focusing on the middle. The edges are almost always where a board opens up.
